Help With Flats

edited July 2020 in PixInsight
Hi Adam,

I carefully followed your suggestions for setting up PI to produce my flats. I'm using an FLI ML16200 camera and used a flat panel to create the Lum_Flats (using 1.33 seconds and 30,000 ADU).

I went and calibrated my M13 light subs with only the Lum Master Flat I produced from the above settings (no Bias or Dark masters) - just wanted to see if the Flat would remove the dust motes. The Integrated image I got was one that is seriously over corrected. Do you know what would cause that?

  • That's expected behavior.

In order for the math to be correct, both the master flat and the target image must be properly bias and/or dark calibrated.  If everything is not calibrated correctly, you can get over or under correction, depending on what steps were skipped.
