In my OSC image of M33, in removing the 2 layers like your example in the workflow tutorial, there is a noticeable difference between the two algorithms. MLT is more subtle, ST does more smoothing and also dilates my stars a little more.
Really looking forward to the noise reduction material. My weakness (one of them!) is blotchy backgrounds after NR and balancing NR with sharpening. Right now I do MLT in the linear domain with a Luminance mask, then TGVDenoise after stretching. Rea…
Thanks! My image scale is 1.09 arcsec/pixel, and stars are multiple pixels wide. I’m getting Gaussian as model method and MAD values in the low -03 and high -04 exponent range.
I guess I should have mentioned what I was shooting - it was the Crescent Nebula in Cygnus. I thought decon might work well with the details in that nebula.
