Deconvolution with Star-Rich Fields

I'm processing a One-Shot Color camera image of M27, the Dumbbell. Trying to follow your workflow, I'm up to deconvolution. The field is amazingly dense with stars - hard to select one that doesn't have another star right next to it. Any suggestions on Decon with such an object? Is decon even appropriate for such a small object, or is it more appropriate for larger nebulae and galaxies?

    Hi Wayne,

    This topic recently came up in another thread. If your stars are already 1-2 pixels in size- deconvolution as a sharpening method isn't going to really be very helpful. There are other sharpening/contrast adjustments that can do more of the heavy lifting. Deconvolution is really a subtle processing effect. But if you keep it very light- decon can be OK for not entirely undersampled stars. Yes, you will need to find stars that are "alone." As long as the stars are one star width away...it should be OK. Just watch the model method and MAD result.

    Thanks! My image scale is 1.09 arcsec/pixel, and stars are multiple pixels wide. I’m getting Gaussian as model method and MAD values in the low -03 and high -04 exponent range.
