The best way to combine images taken with L-Extreme and L-Pro filters

Hi Adam,

Thank you very much for the videos, I am reading "the book" and enjoying it. I will do examples after I complete the entire book.

I am a beginner with few images already done. I have OSC ZWO ASI533MC Pro and two Optolong filters: L-Extreme and L-Pro. Could you advise a way to better combine images taken with these two filters? I was thinking about splitting images with L-Extreme filter into three color channels and taking luminance from images taken with L-Pro filter and then combining them in LRGB Combination. Could you advise a better way, maybe a right way. Thank you!
Grigory

  • Hi Grigory,

I want to be straight-up honest here- I really do not know! This simply isn't something I have experience with. The L-Extreme I assume will give you a narrow-band image. But if you let the light come through with the L-Pro (which is everything but the light pollution lines I think)- you have information in that image that the NB filter (L-Extreme) emission lines will not directly color. I guess what makes sense to me is to either generate a *color* image with the L-Pro and use the L-Extreme data to enhance this image. This means, not as luminance..but literally blending the images by putting extra information into the color channels.

Or... just concentrate on getting really good L-Extreme data and creating a synthetic luminance from it to make an image. I am not even sure making a synthetic Luminance would be necessary.

  • Thank you Adam. Your Pixel Math video is very nice and I will use that to blend the images and play with it. I really appreciate such a high class help to be available in your web site.
    Thank you again.
