MARS DR1 Database

Hi Adam

I watched and tried to follow your video to use the MARDS database.  I uploaded the database with the 3 available files (that includes the one that became available today).  I ran image solver, followed by SFC and I got the expected curve.  Then, I opened and tried to run MGC but got an error message: No reference data found for filter 'B'.  Does this mean that: 1) Bruce screwed up or 2) it is looking in a part of the sky that the MARS database has no reference data to make the correction?  My image is of Arp 269.

    The second part.
But to be certain- look at the MARS announcement. You can see the new coverage maps and verify you are looking at a piece of sky that is not covered. The areas toward Leo and Big Dipper and such are not yet covered.

  • Since there is already a thread on this, I'm going to put my question here.  Is there a reason to download this database if I'm using PixInsight online?  No, I don't have a HDD space issue.  I just don't see a reason to maintain something locally if the program will reach out and access the most recent information online when it is needed.

As I recall, this database is primarily used for color correction, correct?

This data is not available on-line as far as I know.
    (This isn't like SPCC.)
This is a specially developed file exclusively for PixInsight and this process.
    Yes, this is gradient correction.
    Does this answer your question?

  • Yes.  So what I'm hearing is that I should go ahead and download the database and figure out what I need to do to install it.  It should improve some gradient corrections in certain parts of the sky if I'm using the correct process.

If you watch the video I JUST UPLOADED (I am going as fast as I can..they just released this!) I explain so that you do not need to "figure it out..."

  • By the way... this video is EXACTLY the video that subscribers of my new subscription will benefit from and get to see. This is the benefit of being a subscriber in my new way forward.

  • Also I do have some explanation of how this works in FastTrack Training. However, I have a more detailed explanation in what I am now calling my PixInsight Core Bundle (course).

  • Thanks.  I wasn't actually looking for help, I figured it out fairly easily once I found the process it was linked to, but the assistance is always appreciated.
