Mergingg small and large exposures of M31 or M42 to prevent overprocessing bloat of their core areas

I cannot find Adam's treatment of merging short and long exposures of a single target to display core and perimeter features of objects like M31 or M42 in CCD Stack or Photoshop.  I own both pieces of his videos and I cannot find the videos on this subject.

  • Hi Frank,

First I just want to say... people come to my site and see all of my material and assume (I think) I literally have done everything! (and if I have not...I need to get right to it! lol).

It so happens that back in the day I did actually touch on this in a number of ways.
An early method of doing what is now called HDRComposition in PixInsight was by using missing values in CCDStack. I even show the Orion nebula as an example. I believe I am the only person in the world that utilized CCDStack in this way and demonstrated how to do it. Of course this was more than 15 years ago now...

    Did you review this lesson?

  • Adam - That's my problem - I couldn't find it with my admittedly cursory review of all of the lessons in both your Photoshop and CCD Stacck video series.  Can you point me to the CCD Stack section that you illustrated it in?  BTW, subscribing to your site and packages is the BEST investment I ever made in my 60 plus years as an amateur astronomer - your integrity in supporting what you sell is at the nth degree!
