Acquiring Flats for Mono Cameras

Hi,
I have been in the hobby for about 3-4 years, but all of my experience has been with OSC cameras. I've made the decision to take the leap and purchase a mono camera. With an OSC camera taking flats was straightforward with only a single narrowband filter. How do I take flats with SHO and RGB filters? I am assuming that the filters are not parfocal, so how do I keep the imaging train identical for each filter when I take flats the following morning? Is it ok to use the focus setting from the last light frame of the night to take the sky flats the following morning?

Thanks, Jim

  • For purposes of flats I suspect parfocal filters isn't the most important thing. However today you should be setting offsets for your filters that will be remembered by software that is controlling your camera.
For the same reason, yes the last focus frame should be fine.

You will find there are other more important issues to conquer to get nice flats.

  • Ok. Thank you. I didn't have that option with the ASIAir, but since I am switching to NINA, I will.
