Horizontal banding artifacts. Local Normalization?

Hi.

I'm suffering in my images from some time ago of some weird horizontal banding. Unfortunately I cannnot tell when this all started, but finally decide to bite the bullet and chase it (at least trying.

The artifacts seem to impact G and B channels way more than R channel.

Checked the masters and it looks like they show up in LN_Reference. Any advise?

  • Yes, I see it.
The first question I have...is if you are using a Pedestal (as likely you should be).
This is always the question for NB images...

  • Yes. I'm usign pedestal. That's the other thinh I want to explore. I'm going for auto mode. I also adjusted camera offset, maybe a bit too tight.
  • Some cameras (you didn't say what you are using... have a "traffic" control setting that minimizes noise when sending the data over cables. Many variables.

  • ASI294MC. I'm getting simialr artifacts shooting mono with the 294MM

  • The common denominator is NB imagery.
I really think it is the pedestal. It could also be due to old darks.
You might consider a pedestal value like 500 or 1000 to test.
