Is there a way to eliminate all residual star glow (leaving unharmed any residual galactic structures) from an image rendered starless using Russell Croman's StarXterminator?
I think you would need to use CloneStamp for this. But if you are clone stamping over nebulosity you will inevitably be creating stuff that isn't really there! So proceed with caution and use only where really necessary. If you are planning to replace the stars later in the workflow then bear in mind you probably don't need to remove the star glow - it will look fine when the stars are replaced. If you are wanting to produce a starless image as the final result you could try StarNet2 and see if that gives a better result than SXT - it sometimes does although in my experience SXT tends to be superior most of the time.
There are some "clever" and more importantly complicated ways you can attempt to effectively create halos of a give size from the stars themselves and subtract the halos away. This is the Fabian Neyer technique...but it is ALOT of work.
So at the end of the day... yes, clonestamp is the answer.
I do know that Russ will improve this particular result when he next updates SXT.
