I output images from NINA in xsif and have done for years. A while back I made a spelling mistake in my filter description Oii instead of Oiii. I decided to go back and fix it but Batch Fits HeaderEditor would not give me a list of headings to edit.
I took the view (after I had wasted your time with the post) that Mike would be unlikely to alter his script just for me, so I editing the xsif files manually.
Yeah, I guess the issue at the moment is that FITs files are fundamentally an acquisition based metadata recording. XISF files are tied to metadata that is with respect to processing. There is certainly overlap- but at this time the metadata coupling of acquisition information and FITs is very strong. Perhaps this changes in the future and you are the trendsetter.
Professional astronomers do regularly "edit" FITs headers- so, many FITs tools have this ability.
It seems to me if XISF is a proposed improved format- improved access to the metadata (by an editor) should come along with it. And who is responsible for making this XISF editing? I would think it would be the creators of the standard itself. I think PixInsight developers are the ones you should make the request to. Off-loading the effort to clever script makers isn't "robust" as Juan would be want to say. And *this* is the reason I can't help. I have practically zero sway with Juan.
