Can't seem to squeeze out more background

edited December 2019 in PixInsight
Struggling with this - not sure what else I can do.  Notice the greenish tint in the background, which appears in a couple of bands and is concentrated in the center.  I've tried a lot of different things with DBE, even ran ABE to see if that would help.  I can get it just a tad better but not much.

Basically, I've gotten to this point with a couple of DBE passes using generated samples and then placing some additional samples.  Then, I tried using axial samples on these green rings but they are really stubborn.  I even tried going with fixed values and slightly increasing the green channel sample value, which made a slight difference in toning down the green but if I go much higher than about 5/100ths it starts giving me bad results.

What else can I do here?

  • The rings have too much structure for something like DBE to take care of. This really isn't the right tool. Unfortunately there really isn't a tool for this. If you actually succeed in getting rid of the green- the magenta will probably be an issue next. I do however particularly dislike green. So I would probably hit the image with SCNR to remove much of the offending green. Then, as long as the green isn't contaminating the main subject(s)- I would desaturate the background using an appropriate mask. There is no real reason to have a colored background- it is noisy anyway.

So, I went back and applied the techniques for DBE I learned to each of the RGB masters.  After combining I feel I got a better result.  Although, PCC seems to not be giving me an ideal outcome.

Anyway, wanted to share in case anyone else ran into this.
