Hi Adam,
I have had pretty good success using the starless batch process for creating a comet image.
My 12p/pons-brooks data captured last night (at full moon no less) is attached.
I was pleased with the result, until I noticed the flaw.
In the blue channel, there are large squares varying in brightness and intensity.
Left side, top to bottom are the green, blue and red starless subs.
Right side, the as combined RGB starless image, then a stretched with curves RGB and at the bottom with stars added back in.
The blue squares effect appears to be the cause of the patchy squares in the final RGB.
I applied darks and calibrated with WBPP.
The green and red channels look great, no sign of these blocks. (yeesh - no pun intended)
Data captured with a Nikon D800 ISO 800 in APS-C mode, and a William Optic FLT132 36 x 30s exposures.
cheers,
Malcolm
