Unable to Stack...Image Plate Solver Script

Good Morning,

I'm a  PixInsight Fundamentals student and a newbie to astrophotography in general. I decided to get my feet wet in this hobby with a SeeStar S50 (Don't judge). This scope only takes light frames. The whole calibration frames etc do not apply for me at this point, although, If I can learn this process, I want to grow. My issue is that I have successfully had several nights of shooting targets, and stacking and processing them in PixInsight. Over the past couple of nights I have data from M51 and from last night I got NGC 2359. When attempting to stack my images (just like before) I get a script message "Image Plate Solve Script." I have no idea how to adjust this or why it is popping up now. Is this just a setting issue? How do I proceed?

Thank you,

Craig

  • Hi Craig,

It is saying it could not figure out the stars in your field. In order for the astrometric plate solving to work the plate scale (from the focal length) and the coordinates must be correct. If the coordinates are included or in the field of view , for example, this will cause a failure and WBPP (Image Solver) want you to correct the information. I have many videos that explain these concepts. However, if you want to move along.. you can unselect Astrometric Solution in WBPP. However, if you plan on color correcting the images, you will need a solution in order to use SPCC.

Here is one video that explains lots of things...
