Comet imaging using an Alt-Az mount

In the Comet Academy’s totorial “Standard OSC Comet”, video “Batch StarXTerminator” Adam says that if the images are acquired with an Alt-Az mount you will have to first align on the stars and then align on the comet. I assume that’s necessary because the tail of the comet will rotate.

  • When and how are those alignments done?
  • Are there other adjustments that are needed for Alt-Az mounts that are not necessary with equatorial mounts?

Comments

  • The registration on the stars happens automatically with WBPP...so it is the staraligned results.

I am not certain... once you have registered images I do not think so. Of course Alt-Az telescopes suffer from other issues such as rotation of diffraction spikes as well.
