CUDA - Russ Croman does it again!

Adam,

I hadn't seen this posted on your forum yet... so I thought i would pass this along to others that could benefit from the work of Russ Croman.

We've all heard of the incredible benefits of installing/utilizing NVidia's CUDA process of leverage the NVidia GPU for process intensive work, particularly for the processes developed by Russ.  I've been wanting to implement CUDA on my new NVidia powered laptop for some time, but the installation looks very daunting.  Thanks to Russ, this is now all automated.  Refer to his post on the PixInsight forum:

He has provided a simple repository addition that installs all the software, links, environmental elements, etc., that enables CUDA GPU acceleration!

It took PixInsight a few minutes to download the elements, restart/install the pieces, and then it simply works!  The BlurX, NoiseX and StarX processes that once took several minutes now only take a few seconds.  Unbelievable!

Clear Skies!

Ron

  • Indeed, I was considering making a YouTube on this.
However, it is only of interest to people that have the NVIDIA graphics.
Probably still a large number of people... but... not certain if it makes sense to do.

I just did a 'GPU' search to see if there was info on updated CUDA implementation.  All I was finding elseware was outdated.  This thread was the first result!!!  I will check it out.

    Thanks!
