Image solver problem

edited February 2024 in PixInsight
I am having a problem with WBPP plate solving my reference frame. I should note that I have never had an issue with this before. I have verified that the plate scale and center of image coordinates look correct to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the raw uncalibrated fit file. Thank you!

  • I am having the same problem on one of my images I took of the Dark Doodad Nebula.

I don't know what's going on, but I made sure to enter the correct information before initiating it, but like you it will not plate solve.

Attached is 2 links, one for the master light and another which is a screenshot showing the same problem. I am not sure why it is not letting me upload any screenshots for, very strange.

I solved the problem by downloading a larger set of the grd3sp database files. Then I selected them in the Gia process. Then this time when I tried using the local XPSD server in image solver it worked. Funny thing is that it also now works using the automatic catalog as well. I'll take the win! Thank you for showing me that it could be solved.

    Best regards,
    Pat
  • Hi Zak,

I was able to solve your image after making the changes I noted in this thread

  • Yeah... In FastTrack...I did suggest get the entire Universe (catalogs)... I know it seems like unnecessary... but...

  • I am happy to report that once I installed the remaining Gaia DR3 catalogue, my image finally plate solved.

For some reason I must have either not installed the DR3 part of the catalogue or I somehow deleted them. Anyway, problem solved!

    Zak :)
  • OK, this sounds strange, but I was doing a image solve (I too use the Gaia DR3 catalog) this morning, I started it before I left for church and came home and it was still 'attempting' to finish, it had all kinds of weird messages in process dialog. I thought this was all extremely strange as after a few hours it was doing something that should have taken just a few minutes. I tried to stop the process, no go, tried to stop stop and close PI itself and after a few minutes I finally managed it (noting that for some reason PI was using 93% of my 256GB of memory.
I waited to all my mem was cleared, reopened PI, loaded my project and tried it again, boom done in just a couple of minutes.

Point being every now and then, at least on Windoze, PI gets itself in a bad memory state and just refuses to work correctly till you shut down and come back in. Granted most of the time it's still in WBPP (but its vastly better then it was even else then a year ago) so try it with a fresh session and see what happens.
  • I am sorry...I feel this is a memory issue on YOUR computer...not a software glitch.
I would start by doing some memory checks... (what were the "weird messages".. you did not say).
