Still the same question 5 Years later. But since then, things have moved on. Is Blink/SSS still the tools of choice?. I see WPPP has evolved so much, perhaps Blink/WPPP is an more preferred workflow?.
I do like to initially sort by "Stars" in SSS, I find it a quick way to remove images with a very low star count, removing images with passing clouds or haze.
I will be interested in your views. Now I am retired, and have 1000's of frames to process.
However, in approximately 2021 PixInsight finally updated it weighting methodology for ImageIntegration.
If you cull the simple stupid garbage frames with blink- the weighting will take care of the rest. You do not need to look closely really. In fact you could actually leave the still stupid garbage frames as long as you have enough good frames and the weighting will take care of it. I do not find the SFS is necessary in general. Think I am wrong? Easy to test. Do your best SFS on a large set and cull what you want. Then run all frames without intervention using WBPP and proper weighting. Compare the masters.
So you asked 5 years ago...but according to my records I listened and answered 4 years ago.
In the early days, I purchased all your DVD's, and later flew from Europe to attend your course at Mt Lemon.
I have always liked what you do, and supportive of your services.
Currently, things are moving as such a fast pace, that It gets confusing what is the better or recommended processing workflow. You have confirmed that, Thankyou
Again apologies, as I seem to have really upset you.
No no!... Not upset... but I literally did what you asked!
Regarding the test...I would truly hope you do it. As you say, many of the recommendations are due to the fast evolution of software and methods. This means that often the suggestions are based on small numbers of instances/experiments. It is good to hear back from people that actually compare with their own data.
Maybe the "silly stuipid" was negative? I just meant the most obvious worst frames.
