M45 Stars Artifacts

Hi Adam, this is a follow up from my post on the PixInsight FB forum where you suggested I watch the Star Rejection Artifacts video you made.
I followed your instructions to use Winsorized Sigma Clipping, and while I'm seeing some improvements, I think I need to tweak the parameters a little more as there are still dark rings around the stars as per this shared master screenshot. Could you tell me which parameter(s) allows to control the size (or diameter) relative to stars where rejection will occur. As a reminder, at the end of your video your are referring to :

  • Sigma high: 1.5
  • Large-scale pixel rejection high (checkbox)
  • Large-scale layers: 3
  • Large-scale growth: 5

I'm guessing it's Large-scale growth, but I'm not sure if there is a relation with the other parameters that I should follow.

Thank you, Adam.

p.s.: The screenshot is from the Drizzled master file.

  • Yes, I suspect growth will help.
However you can experiment with going one LESS layer... with a larger growth as well.
Or.. you can go with more MORE layer... and maybe less growth.

The layers button excludes those layer scales (like MLT). When you remove a layer..the result is a fuzzier (and generally less bright) result.

The growth is probably the best to work with and increase. It is the more direct parameter that affects the rejection map. You can see my video:
    around 23:16.
