One on one tutor

edited December 2023 in PixInsight
Hi everyone and Adam. I am very new to astrophotography and am at the point where i think i am getting good data from my TOA130, QHY600M, Chroma LRGB and NB filters, and AP Mach2. I have another imaging system with an AP 130GTX, ASI2600mc (might replace with ASI2400MC) and Paramount MYT that should be up and running in a month. Im of course taking my time going through Adam’s fundamentals videos but i am looking for a one-on-one tutor that i can use as a supplement. Was thinking of a couple hours a week for a few months. Im sure you are very busy Adam but do you do any direct tutoring? Any names of tutors anyone can suggest? Thank you!

  • I can do direct tutoring..and the winter break (the next 2 weeks) is a good time.
However, the issue (for some) would be an appropriate hourly rate.

I would suggest you jump start your goals by processing images and literally running into a problem.
You can use this forum to answer many questions.

Let's start with you working on the latest Workflow video (NGC 1491) and seeing if here are any issues with making that translate to your own data.

  • Thanks so much for reaching out to me Adam. I appreciate it. I'll do as you suggest and go over the workflow module on NB processing. Looks like most of the continental US is clear of the jet stream and should be enjoying great seeing conditions tonight. I'm in CT and I'm getting FWHM of 1.3" and 0.23" total RMS guiding. Getting great data that I'm looking forward to tackling.

I'm sure I'll run into some issues that I want to do a deeper dive with you with. The next two weeks should be good for me as well. Thanks again and clear skies!

    Hi Adam,

So I was able to do a quick processing on about 12.5 hours of total integration time with 3nm Ha, Oiii and Sii data on Ngc 2174 (Monkey Head Nebula) I captured before Xmas with great seeing. Unfortunately, I can't get master narrowband flats to get to work well yet. They come out all splotchy and do some really funky stuff to my master lights - creates more gradients than removes. So I used WBPP without flats but with bias, darks and optimized master darks. Output master lights look decent - at least to my very novice eyes. I looked for a SHO workflow example but couldn't find one on your site - must have missed it? I kind of winged it with pieces from your site and pixinsight books. Overall I'm pretty happy with the end result. I did make the mistake of editing on my gaming curved widescreen monitor, which in hindsight was a horrible idea, but its connected to a gaming rig with RTX3080ti with a lot of RAM. I am putting together a new post processing rig with a color calibrated monitor which should help. I don't know if my end result is too saturated in the core of the nebula - didn't look that way on my gaming monitor (and I was being lazy/didn't have a lot of time and should have checked the actual ADU pixel values there) but it does on my macbook pro screen. Also wished I pulled more of a darker blue in the core.

  • I just saw on another post all narrowband processing is in the Horizons modules, which I don’t have but I’ll get if it is there.
