Pleiades is a Mess - Part 2: Lens Flare or Space Pizza?

edited December 2023 in PixInsight
Using the same data I outlined in my previous post, there are two large, perfectly circular, what I am guessing are lens flares right in the middle of the frame.  I found a similar photograph of M45 online taken with the same telescope and camera that I am using, and that image had the same disks in the same place.

Any advice for reducing this effect?

  • On the subsequent attempt, I ended up using Photoshop to deal with the lens flare circles.  I was unable to figure it out in PI
  • This ghosting is typically caused by internal reflections between the filter and the ccd window (or surface). It can also be caused by a corrector lens (or reducer) and sensor.

Coming soon will be a solution to this issue that will not require Photoshop.
I cannot tell you more now, but look for announcements from me and others in the near future.
