PixInsght update slowdown

Has anyone experienced a marked slowdown in PI since the update? Specifically, not at the beginning of processing, but after a while, some processes, especially GAME and ColorCorretedHDRMT can take 10 minutes or more to process. This has occur on both a Mac Desktop and laptop.

  • This isn't a normal thing as far as I can tell.
But you should look at the official forum and see if others have issues.

  • Helpful if there was a table of benchmark times, for example wbpp integration time per 100 frames.  My system seems slow lately but I have no reference.

Also, I went back to version:  PixInsight Core 1.8.9-1 Ripley (x64) (build 1556 | 2022-05-18)

Because the next version wiped out EZsuite and Starnet2, that I use almost every day.

     Thx.  Les
  • You should make certain you have taken care of the exclusion/permissions regarding PixInsight file types (did you?). Not doing so will definitely 100% make things go very slow.

EZsuite and Starnet were not wiped out- this is a third party issue. I believe the torch has been passed concerning EZ stuff. Starnet appears to be in the works if I understand something I saw in passing.

  • Regarding "you have taken care of the exclusion/permissions regarding PixInsight file types"

Is this the process where you go into windows security and 'allow' pixinsight ?  or pls provide a link.

    Thanks.

  • Yes..correct. Giving permission to exclude PixInsight (or file types) from being scanned.

  • I have seen some videos about 'activating' the graphics processor to speed up PIS wbpp.  Seemed like an involved process, and done differently in various videos.  So I wondered if you or anyone have an opinion of the good and bad for doing this?  Or measuring how & if we need it.  I am shooting longer sequences with multiple nights, so stacking 4-700 frames takes a while on my 2-year old Dell desktop system.

    Thx.
  • You need the NVIDIA card.
    Russ Croman's instructions are definitive.
It is involved...but wow, the results are amazing. I can remove stars from a large image in 4 seconds.

There is no downside really...you are enabling an otherwise dormant capability.

This would not affect stacking. This is only about the use of the GPU when using certain tools like Russ Croman's scripts (SXT, BXT, NXT).
