GAIA download

Hi all,
I'm having trouble downloading GAIA. I'll select a file and a dialog box pops up with file name and type. I click save and nothing happens. I'm running Windows 10 Pro on a new PC made just for PI. I do have a slow Internet connection being microwave, I kinda live in the boonies with high speed comming soon via fiber. There is no download progress box as with any other download. Any help or ideas.

    I am sorry Bret..I need more information (or a screen capture) to understand.
    When you download the GAIA star catalogues- you do this from your Browser having navigated to the PI serve (your account, you need to log in). 

    If the pop up you are referring to is from your browser (this is my guess) then this sounds normal. The download progress will appear at the bottom of your browser (for most browsers but not all). 

    So what I was hoping to hear from you in terms of a complete problem is that you looked in your downloads folder and find nothing. Is this true?

    Upon further trial and experimentation, When I click on a download I get a temp file that I can double click on. After doing that the file downloads as a temp file inside of PI. I still can't do anything with it. This is a new PC kinda high end, but I don't know how to take a screen shot. Again any help is appreciated.

    Hi Bret,

    Have you watched my FastTrack Training video? You can see me do this stuff... I believe I specifically step through showing this. You will not want to try to click or open the file. It needs to be loaded into the GAIA process. (PixInsight needs to know where the files are located...that is what you are doing in the GAIA process.)

    When you attempt to download from the PixInsight server- the file names should have dr3 in them. If your file names are "temp" or something..it means it is not finished downloading (or the download is incomplete). 

    You will definitely want to learn how to capture a screenshot. 
    I am also going to make a recommendation that is my first time EVER doing so..but this is the day and age we live in and there has to be a first time! Chat GPT is really quite nice in some respects for very common things  (like take a screencapture)- you can literally have a conversation and ask it. You ask it "How do I take a screenshot with my computer." It answers. Then you say "but I have a Mac" and it answers again..and it is very helpful! I would give it a try...you might like it!


    You will need to create a free account... and then you can just ask questions. So when I say take a screenshot...you can go ask it how. You can even ask the same question you are asking here. If you ask it "I am trying to download a file and it says it is a temp file..is this OK?" It will explain it means it is not finished downloading. Stuff like that!

    Hi again,
     This time I feel like a blockhead but it came to me today at work and I tried it out when I got home and the issue is solved. You may want to make a note of this or change your presentation on how to download Gaia.
    My problem was that I had navigated to Pix download via recourses in PI. The download was saving in PI as a temp file I couldn't do anything with.
     When I got home, I navigated to PI Download Via my browser and tried it and it proceeded as a normal download as one would expect. Lesson, don't go via to PI Home via PI to do this.

    Oh... you did this through the browser IN PixInsight?
    I know you can do this... but this isn't something I am teaching... I feel there could be some issues.

    Having problems as well.
    Open Gaia date releases show... Gaia DR2 under it Gaia EDR3

    Shows: No database files have been selected for..

    followed the tutorial to where They are kept in folder.
    Had to put them in D: as my C: is small

    David,

    This is different. This means your PixInsight has not been updated.
    You need to go to manage your Repositories and make certain they say 1.8.9-1 .
