GHS - in your video on M51

Can one separate the star image first before you apply the GHS to the galaxy ?
would this avoid changes to the starts ?

  • Yes, it would.
    BUT.. things get tricky. If you start from extracting stars at the linear stage- what happens is that you stretch your Galaxy..and THEN you need to stretch your stars. But how much? They will not play well together unless you are very careful. Sure you can stretch the stars less- 

    But often what might be easier is to create an initial stretch in which the stars are OK. Now set this image aside and you can remove the stars from it. Continue to stretch the Galaxy a little more... and then blend those two images together. You will likely find this works out well.
