relation between SPCC, streching and color saturation

Hi, going through fastrack and fundamentals, I have a question related to the relation between SPCC, stretching and color saturation.
I am working with a OSC.
Having done SPCC just after DBE, as far as I understand streching all channels all together will not change the balance so I keep the result of SPCC unchanged.
But when comes, color saturation I am confused. What is the consequence on the result of SPCC?
I read in the curve process documentation "This procedure allows, within reasonable limits, for very controllable and smooth color saturation transformations with full preservation of the luminance and no hue changes" and I understand that it would preserve hue but I thought that color saturation was coming from adding or removing some white or grey from the pixels so I am lost.
Thank you for your coming explanations,
Frédéric

  • Color saturation with respect to the lightness of an image is a non-trivial thing to explain. I can't do it.
    Have you seen this?

  • Thank you blockhead, interesting and estonishing video.
Another way to put my question would be: is there a way to adjust color saturation AND stay consistent with the average spiral galaxy balance coming from SPCC? i.e. not ruin the right color balance coming from SPCC.

  • I simply do not know enough to answer your question. This is a color space issue. My gut says, No. When you adjust the saturation you do affect the hue in some subtle ways- and as the video demonstrates it is tied with the lightness as well. On the other hand most people, such as myself- regard the SPCC as a common foundation to work from. I use it as a starting point- but certainly increase saturation and contrast as I move forward. Having an accurate starting point is invaluable.
