How to include bright star diffraction spikes

How do I incorporate bright star diffraction spikes on my images?
Is is possible if all my hardware parameters are correct i.e focusing etc?
Main scope is RedCat51?

  • Well.... that is quite a question...

There are two methods (actually three.... but you will not like the third).

    1. You are using a refractor. So you can introduce diffraction artifacts by crossing two strings (black thread work very well) in front of your aperture. Just tape them on and try.
    2. You can get a software program to add fake artifacts of star diffraction! Pixinsight does not have this capability... and it goes against the very existential nature of the developer's (Juan Conejero) philosophy.
    3. You can buy a telescope that has the support vanes with a secondary mirror.

So... refractors do not produce nice diffraction spikes unless you add something (thread) in front of the telescope.

  • Okay will try this method. I feel it adds to the beauty of the image ?
