Anaother SPCC error

I'm sure you're sick of hearing about this and I am sick of having it.  I tried to process your data from NGC3486 in Fundamentals.  I am using v 2.5.9 of the Batch scrip,  the latest I have available.  I turned everything on but cropping.  The batch run paused at astrometric solution and I input correct FL 5692.  The batch  continued on until system integration.  It processed the first color file fine, for some reason on the second file, it stopped for an astrometric solution update???  I have no idea why this happened and no amount of adjusting parameters made the slightest difference.  I finally exited and let the batch continued.  No error on next two files.  I don't even know why system integration would want an astrometric solution.

When I combined the three color channels, I noticed that they had been interpolated by Batch to match the Luminance.  SPCC failed with the classic too few stars error.  By the way, there are only 15 recognized stars in the field.  A star plot showed no stars detected at all.  No amount of parameter fiddling made the slightest difference.  The star colors seem aligned.  I also tried in on the luminance channel, converted to RGB.  No joy.  I can send you my color image, if I knew how.  But nothing has been done to the output of Batch, but channel combination.

  • Could it be the RGB data is BINNED 2x2.. so the plate scale is different. Instead of 9 micron pixels...the pixels are 18 micron.

Let me know if this points you in the right direction.

If you would like, attach the log file that is generated.
This is a case where I processed data before a new tool existed. So... there may be a nuance (I suspect dealing with the binned data).

  • The Batch run seems to have interpolated the color 2x2 to 1x1.  Following your general counsel that there must be something wrong with the stars.  Not discernable by me.  I tried the only software I know to fix the stars -- BlurXterminator.  This actually worked and SPCC was able to run without error.
  • After several false starts, I figured out how to have WBPP process the binned data without interpolation.  However, all the binned data would not find an astronomic solution.  The 1x1 data -- no problem.  I tried running the 2x2 data through image solver, tinkering with the parameters, with no luck.  At one point I had changed things so much, I didn't know where I was anymore.  I reinitialized Image solver.  Now the binned data worked fine?? I formed a binned RGB and used SPCC with not problem.  I must admit I'm totally confused here.  I'm sure I iinitialized WEBB at the start of the run and purged the cache.  But perhaps it is not worth pursuing.  Almost nobody mixes binned and unbinned data any more.
