Questions about projects.

I'm confused about how projects are set up, how they work and how they can help me. Maybe the issue is some form of mental block in my understanding, or maybe I am expecting something that a project isn't... but I need help.

Maybe this topic is explained is a video that I haven't yet seen, but I have watch many a video expecting to find something about projects to no avail. Is it possible that a videos be made that explains all there is to be known about projects in PI, or if there is one already available could you please point me to it.?

Thank in Advance,

  • Projects save every image you have on the desktop (in workspaces) as well as all of their history states. Also saved are the settings for any open processes and all process instances (icons) on the desktop. It pretty much saves everything so you can continue from where you left off. Even the positions of things on the screen are saved... (which is useful if you are making videos like me... :) )

I am not certain there is much more to explain. When you save a project- a folder/directory is saved on your computer can contains all of this information. You can transport (copy/paste) this folder to anywhere you would like can as long as the project file is in the same parent folder... everything will open.

  • There's also a very nice intro to projects on the PixInsight YouTube channel

  • Thanks Adam and Ken,

I'll try harder to get it all worked out. I just don't understand why I'm having issues with projects, supposedly one of the easier parts of PI, when nearly everything else about the program make perfect sense to me.

    I'll give it another go.

  • I think you need to ask a specific question... something that doesn't make sense to you?

Do you understand, for example, when you save files to your computer (physically on the disk as XISF files)- you can see the process instances and the settings..but you cannot actually "go back in time" to the previous image states. However when these images are saved as a project.. you *can* because it is saving (behind the scenes) the intermediate images at each step.

  • I think I have it all worked out now. It just seems that I had a major mental block.

But I do have more question on other subjects which I will get to in future posts.  8-)

    Thanks Again
