Star Halo Removal

Hi Adam,

Looking for star halo removal tutorial. I'm working with NGC 6726 and that bright double star is causing big halo in RGB color. What would be the best method to get rid of it. I can actually use both PixInsight and Photoshop.

Cheers,
Petri

This would certainly make a good tutorial. In fact- star halos are so varied in size, brightness, color and structure that an entire section of many examples would be required. So there isn't, in my opinion, a "best method" for getting rid of them. There are perhaps some methods that relate to classes of halo issues- and one or more of those methods will help with the issue.

So- at the moment I don't have a lesson- and without seeing the particular example- I do not have a suggestion.

One very nice PIxInsightful way to handle the halo is use an image that doesn't have it as a reference for Local Normalization. For example if the halo was very red- but did not show very much in the other channels- it might be possible to take advantage of this attribute. But this is a very specific case- as is generally true I think.

    Thank you Adam.

Here's a screenshot of my most challenging project what it comes to star halos. Only luminance is quite okay.
