I've always been mesmerized by this area of the sky and it's a big part of what got me back into astrophotography after a 10 year break!

At the moment I feel it's a bit too processed and 1 too many Noise Exterminator iterations giving it a slightly posterized/painted look....
But it's off to a good start for my first PI project, any constructive criticism welcome !
Cheers,
Casey

  • What a great target! Can you provide some technical details (scope, camera, integration time, etc...)?
  • Hi there David !

The lens was the Samyang 135 F2 which is excellent and rightfully quite popular among us astro folks. Camera was the QHY268C which I'm really happy with..I don't have WBPP in front of me at the moment but it's about 20 hours of RGB data + about 5 hours of HA through the Baader f2 filter....

Ultimately this represents my re-learning astrophotography hence the light frames are a mish mash of gains and fstop and exp times until I settled in around gain 50 @ F2.8 @ 3mins seemed to work well...

But even with this wonderful lens @2.8 there was coma with the stars at the edges, so I did a about 4 hours @F5.6 to get nice razor sharp stars and those are the stars that are put back....

This might be a scam that I try some more: get excellent SNR with more wide open f-stops but then do a few hours of data at 5.6 or 8 in the middle of the lens for good stars and via StarXtermintor\Bill Blanshan scripts trying getting the best of both worlds....

Thanks so much for commenting ! Cheers,Casey
