Dark Center on some stars after Drizzle Integration

Camera ZWO ASI294 mc Pro and WO GT71 scope. A bit under sampled, but I sometimes like the wider field so I drizzle when I use this  combination. I use cosmetic correction with auto remove hot pixels and I allow WBPP to do everything including creating a master light. No dark spots in the center of any stars. I then use drizzle integration and many of my stars now have the dark spots in the center. I have tried this with pixel rejection checked and unchecked with similar results. Anyone have ideas on how to correct this? Thanks

  • Yes- his occurs when you have enabled "High Range Rejection"... to my knowledge, this was disabled by default because of this very issue. You should uncheck this in the ImageIntegration controls if it is enabled.

  • Well I've tried pretty much everything suggested here and I still get the dark center artefacts in many stars. Interesting that it is not in the brightest or biggest stars. This is frustrating enough that I am considering not using this camera with this particular scope any longer. Thanks for your help, but Pixinsight needs to figure this one out somewhere along the line.
  • Paul,

Go ahead and provide the calibrated data. This artifact is clearly explained in that thread and you should not get the result you are indicating. A set of 15 files should be more than enough.

  • I just logged on to tell you how I figured this out. Hadn't seen your request for my data. I was giving a go at having WBPP provide me with three separate integrated channels for my OSC to see if would control some of the chromatic Aberration I was experiencing. Its the same data I was discussing above. It did OK at that. But I decided to try something else with that data. I drizzled each channel and combined them. Guess what? No artifacts in the center of any stars. Made me happy and I am guessing it will work for others. Thanks for helping me out in kind of an indirect way.

  • By the way, I have no idea how to upload data to you or anyone else. I can see where that might be helpful, but don't know hoe. Could you point me to a tutorial? Thanks
  • Hi Paul,

To upload data to share you need to use a cloud drive such as Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox,...etc etc. You would shared a link to the files or folder and specify that link to be public (available to anyone that has the link).
