WBPP Fails to work

Hi Adam

Just started processing some data (Ha and OIII) from the East Veil Nebula that I've taken last night. I got 2h50 on each filter, 300s frames (see image of one of the OIII) and got 15 FLAT and 15 DARKFLAT, and also 15 DARK. When I run WBPP he keeps giing me some warnigs (compalints about MRS) and later fails to integrate (see error attached). WI've tried to rerun withou the DARK and WBPP was able to produce master light. When I tried to open an image from the registered directory of the workflow with dark, flat and darkflat for my surprise the image was only satrs, there is nothing of the nebula

I can see that the problem resides on the calibration process and is something to do with the darks but I can realise what

Need for help

I can make all the data available for you to analyse just tell me how

  • Hi Burno,

Since you areworking with Narrowband data... please watch the video concerning the use of a Pedestal...

This is certainly something to check since it can cause the issue you are describing.

  • Hi Adam

I've seen the video and followed it adding a pedestal, it was needed at least a 500 count in order not to loose to much information. Is that normal? My images were taken with a 3.5nm Ha and OIII filter from a moonless Bortle 2 sky and only 300s each frame so from what I can understand, and correct if I'm wrong, in those conditions I would need a much higher exposure time from frame, it's that correct?

    Thanks a lot
  • Hi Bruno,

Did it work? Did adding the pedestal fix the issue? If the answer is yes, then 500 is a perfectly fine value- this will not eat into your dynamic range in a significant way. I do not know what sensor you have... if you have a 16-bit sensor then consider that adding 500 means instead of having a range of possible values of 65,535 for each pixel- the new range is 65,535-500 = 65,035 . This is a tiny adjustment that will have no real effect on you.
