Comet processing using Star Exterminator

I have been trying to use Star Exterminator as ourlined in your  video but it seems to leave alot of residuals around M10.  I have attached a single image of comet only to see the results of Star Exterminator.  Once I stack 29 images it become more severe.  Any suggestions on how to process to help to eliminate these residuals.

thanks,

Mike

I tried to upload an image but it fails to upload so I am including a screen shot.

  • Here is the screenshot.

  • HI Mike,

Did you use my residual masking idea/technique to reduce them?
Residuals are a thing- but what you are left with is much better than the standard way by rejection only.

  • Here is a screen shot of a single comet only frame.  For some reason it did not attach earlier.  I will try the residual masking technique again.  I may have messed up somewhere along the way.

  • Well... it is unlikely the globular cluster will completely go away. The rest of the frame looks perfectly normal.
You likely have few enough star residuals that the GAME tool might just make the masking easier. My technique is really for the case you cannot go around and do this with GAME. Once you have masked the residuals- MMT plus noise (or other techniques) can do a very good job.
It will not be perfect. Your results will really only be as good as the starless images of course.
