New PI Weighting Methods - Fundamentals

Hi Adam,
The 4 Part explanation of how/why these weighting methods work is spot on for what i like about your videos. Additionally you tested them with different data sets and show how much different (and similar) they work. Perfectly done.

I also watched most of the same subject in your YouTube videos. I compared the Part 1's in Fundamentals to Part 1 on Youtube (side by side). The audio seem to show you have an 'alter-ego'! I mean that in a nice way. I think it difficult to keep track of what you say for the two distribution channels. You are a natural, and us subscribers get to benefit from the additional explanations in Fundamentals.
I agree CCD Stack, way back then, did a great job. Long before I started astro-imaging!

Now my question....
If you integrated your testing data set(s) according to each of the different weighting factors and compared the results would you predict a visible quality difference? I anticipate you say yes. Then would it be valid to feed the integrated results into subframe selector and see how it weights each integration result? For using NSG to check, John Murphy only says interesting idea.

Thanks,
     Roger

  • I don't think you need to feed it back in. The numbers you are looking for are (basically) SNR and star quality to keep things simple. I actually demonstrate this in my latest upload of the PixInisght Horizons session of the Draco Nebula (Eta Draconis). I show that with PSFSW you get better stars but at the expense if noise- and the opposite of course with an SNR only scheme.

There is one proviso... I may not have used the weight threshold of ImageIntegration correctly. I am not certain I understand its usage entirely... or it isn't what I expect. I am still talking about this with Roberto.

  • And regarding the YouTube- there are two (or three) different kinds of videos I produce there.

    1. Some small technique or discovery that is valuable to everyone and might showcase my instructional abilities or influence. This is to encourage people to consider becoming a member of my site.
    2. Other videos are a summary of some big thing that I think the community at large needs to understand. These videos, unfortunately I guess, even help other content creators so we can be on the same page. I did this with WBPP, NSG...and now with Weighting. Hopefully the good will serves me.
    3. Some "fluff" stuff.

So I don't expect members to follow the YouTube videos- but sometimes I am better practiced after explaining things so many times... that the YouTube versions can be more polished in language...but often not quite as deep. It is a challenge...

  • Hi Adam,
I did not know you did each video so many times. I hope it can get easier. The results are superb.
I was looking at the Youtube channel to see if you were posting some subscription videos there. But they are a bit different.

    Thanks,
         Roger

  • Correct...in general I am not posting the same content to YouTube that I create for AdamBlockStudios.
I did in the case of WBPP.

  • I purchased SNG from John Murphy's website, and I got the reply email with the permanent license and some sparse instructions. But I'm having a multitude of problems like never before:

    1. Where do I down load the zip file?
    2. How do I activate the perm license?

Links and such would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Let me re-edit #1 above:

    1. Where do I find the necessary zip file!?

    Thanks,

    Ray

  • Please disregard, I figured it out.
