MURE Question...

Hey Folks...

Wondering about the use of Combination Count when one creates a weighted average using LN or NSG or even weighting schemes calculated using the new WO...

Shouldn't Combination Count really be the sum of all weights instead of the number of images that went into the weighted average?  If one dreams up a simple example of 50 image, where 25 have a weight of 1.0 and the others have a weight of 0.0001... then it's clear only 25 images truly created the result and are responsible for the noise characteristics in the integrated image...

Anyway, just used MURE Denoise successfully for the first time.... so that's pretty cool...

  • Hi James,

I see where you are coming from... I do not know is the short answer. I wonder if the combination count is used for the  estimate for the additive noise (the readnoise)- which would be independent of weighting of the signal. But I think you are right that this algorithm assumes equal input in terms of expected signal. Definitely a Mike Schuster question.
