Screen Mask Invert method in PI

Adam,

You mention in your video on Linear fit that Pi can do and has tools to do the same sort of thing that the Screen mode in Photoshop can do like Screen Mask Invert, but you don’t say what that tool is. Can you elaborate?

Also, you mention that you have a section on the HDRComposition tool. Where is that in the tutorials?

Thanks,

Chris Foster

    Hi Chris,

For specific questions... please do indicate a video and a time! It will really help.

Hmmm... off the top of my head I am not certain what exactly I was thinking of. I might have been indicating (as I demonstrate in the PI Horizons NGC 6888 example) that both a script and of course pixel math expressions are available for Screen blending... so this is the exact process.

The HDRComp is a lesson that is upcoming. I really need to put together some good data for it... or grab some past stuff.

  • Adam,

I found the section. It was the section on Exponential transformation which is really great.
  • Adam,

I have been using StarNet++ to create starless images and then convolution with an inverted range mask to blur the starless image. I then use the blend script with the screen mode to combine with the base image at 50% opacity. This works VERY well like the photoshop SMI.
  • Good technique Chris.
