WBPP will not apply Master Bias or automatically recognize Master Flat

Well first to admit that I am new to PI...all my previous experience started 13 years ago with Nebulosity, Images Plus, CCD soft, CCD Stack etc and of course Photoshop.
My issue is in using older data for a camera I no longer have. I have attached FITS Headers of the master bias and the master flat and the log and screenshot of WBPP setup...and a shot of the horrid results.
Any wisdom would be appreciated.
Cheers

  • I think you will find it difficult to take "old" data (that is data that is not normalized from 0 to 1) and use it in the way you did by loading it into WBPP. The method that will always work is to recreate the master calibration data from the original darks, biases and flats. This is why I don't throw anything away!

Do you still have the original calibration data?

  • I have original bias and dark frames from my library which I updated every 2 years. Most of my flats are Master flats.
Is there no way to "force" WBPP to accept these master files ? If I do it all manually will it accept the Master files ?
    Thanks for being there, Adam

  • I have found some original flats for this image...so now I have all original data set...but WBPP still does not recognize the bias frames.

Please look in the FITs header. Are the files labeled as a type Bias?
If not, you can simply load them into WBPP using the Custom button to force the frame type.

  • I placed IMAGETYP  Bias in the FITS file. I have also loaded all images using the Custom button,
The files load but the Flat frames are not being calibrated by the Bias ( I do not have Master FlatDarks).
  • You will need to show a screenshot of the control panel with your files loaded. Click on one of the Flats in the control panel before you make the screen capture. This is really the best way to figure (quickly) out these issues. Lots of screenshots. I am pretty certain the solution is easy.

  • Here's my effort...the bias is not being applied . All files were entered using the Custom tab.

  • HI Lynn,

    Whoah... hang on there partner.
Why are you inputting all of those keywords? You do not need to do this!
You are also attempting to manually match the files.
All of this I am certain is confusing the issue and making a mess.

I think you should do this from scratch.
Remove all keywords, use "Auto" for calibration settings.
    Load files normally.

Then we can figure out what is the issue.

If you have not watched my WBPP videos... or even a workflow example where I use WBPP (Say the NGC 3486 stuff)...I really think you will find it helpful.

So first... reset WBPP completely. Load files normally and THEN show screenshots of what is not matching.

  • Okay...got it. I have used WBPP successfully with my OSC data...for some reason these older mono data frames were causing problems...that's when, in desperation, I added all the keywords hoping that they would latch on to the program and help with recognition.
You were correct- once I took my keywords out the bias was recognized.
All is well now....thanks for being there, Adam.
At 73 years its getting tougher to keep up with all the great programs that have evolved over the past 15 years...PI certainly is a game changer .
    Cheers
