Subframe selector

edited January 2022 in PixInsight
Simple question I could answer myself if I were not off grid in the boon docks. Only have internet for and hour or two in the morning. For rgb fits files, do I run them through subframe selector first or after WBPP ? If its after do I use debayered files or something else? Thanks

  • Hi Paul,

Sorry, the question is phrased in a way that confuses me. If you have 'RGB" files, then you are not using an color filter array (OSC) image- so debayering isn't an option (you are already "debayered" :) ).

I have found that running calibrated frames through SFS is best in terms of analysis. Thus, if you wanted to use WBPP- you would only use it (initially) to calibrate the data. Then use SFS to cull poor frames. You could technically go back to WBPP to complete the rest of the processing- or just do the registration and image integration yourself. There is an additional consideration of whether you want to use the NSG script as well.  I personally use my eye/brain to do most culling of frames with blink and then rely on weighting schemes to take care of the rest of the data.

  • Actually I am sung a OSC . Sorry about the confusion. Do I calibrate all of my files (flats, darks, etc) or just lights before running them through SFS? I am assuming I calibrate lights in WBPP, then lights to SFS, then back to WBPP for all file type calibration and then resume as normal with star alignment and then integration.
