Download Issues with Cloudfront.net tonight?

edited November 2021 in General
Hi, new user -j ust joined tonight.  I  am trying to download the FastTrack data and am getting very slow response for the Cloudfront.net server where the zip file appears to be stored.     I checked my Internet and it's working well 580Mbps/250Mbps download/upload speeds.  All other main websites working well too.   Is it just my luck to try downloading my first lessons during a cloudfront outage or is there something else that could be causing it.   Curious to see if anyone else is having issues.

Cheers,
Mike

EDIT:  Never mind....

  • Ok,
It cleared up finally.  Whatever the issue was, It wasn't on my end. and I was finally able to download successfully.
Just some more of my typical luck !  hahaha
  • Yeah...I am unaware of any issues.
For the technical minded...and I do not fully understand this stuff...
My content exists on "Edge" servers. The content itself resides somewhere- but is then copied to these servers on demand and remain there for periods of time as long as there continue to be requests for it.
So if you are far from the originating server and your closest Edge server doesn't have my content... it takes more time. Once on the Edge serve... then delivery will be speedy. So your "luck" (if any of this is true) is that no one using your nearest EdgeServer has the content (or requested it recently)- and initially it was slow...but then once the bits are there... things are speedy.

You probably know more about this than me!

  • Hi,
I am somewhat familiar with Amazons service. But, it's been many years since I was a customer of AWS and no longer have access to the tools needed to determine  bottlenecks and traffic or it's current topology. ;-P

In any case, I was in the middle of watching  the third video in the Fast track series, now it's just buffering circle forever.  It was working fine with great response and just stopped streaming about 7:10Pm eastern time.  Reloading the page and refreshing the stream no joy.  I guess I'll just try again tomorrow to watch the videos.  I will finish watching the WBPP 2.0 series  on youtube!  ( which led me here today)  hahaha
  • Some people do have this perennial issue. It can be related to browsers and things.
I have not nailed it down. This is the reason I made the download (right click access) option.
Then you can download the video and watch it without interruption on your machine.

(P.S. When it shows the moving circle...sometimes just bumping it fowrard helps).

  • Yeah, when the  "buffering" graphic appears, moving it forward or back no effect.  I did see the note in your FAQ about this.  Tried both Chrome and Edge.  Still have issue of video's not playing, or they play for the intro then stop forever.  It's odd because I got through the first few videos without an issue then the third one stopped halfway through talking about blink.  Not sure what the problem is, Youtube and all other services working great.  I'll try some network tricks like clearing my DNS cache and renewing my DNS lease from my ISP  or going through a VPN and see if that helps.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Using a VPN  routed through servers in New York fixed the issues with the videos. (I am in Southern Ohio)   Not sure what is going on here, but I have a workaround now.

    Cheers,
    Mike
