PROCESSING QUESTION FOR NARROWBAND

I am new to this and wonder if most people colour combine Ha Oiii and Sii in the Linear stage or non linear?
I know Ron Brecher does so at the linear stage as set out in his recent image. But the Light Vortex tutorial suggest blending the non-linear version....
I have watched many ( no not all) of Adam's LRGB videos and recognize the techniques of working on the Luminance images and the RGB separately in the non linear state and then stretching them carefully to not "over brighten" some things, and then apply LRGB no the gently stretched images

That seems to suggest that perhaps I should be colour combining at the linear stages and just using the colour parts for simply colour ....

So that leads to the next question which is how to create a "synthetic luminance" with my Master HA Oii and Sii black nd white images...
Is there a popular pixel math formula out there? Or is there another method to create this?

If anyone has done this before I woudl be grateful to hear on it was done! thanks Andrea

  • I do think working and combining in linear is probably best initially.
Then you create a color image. Once you have this- you can always extract the luminance (lightness) from it- and then recombine after you have made an adjustment. I do not think you need to have a completely separate luminance path...but maybe, it depends on the data. But extraction I think is the easiest way. You could combine the data in some fancy way for a different kind of luminance I guess.
