Puzzled by APASS civerage vudeo.

I am puzzled by your APASS coverage video.  I have processed three data set of M101 through PCC without problem.  (One of mine, two from Telescope Live).  I have also processed three data sets of M51 (one from me, one from you in Horizons, and one from Telesope Live) with no problem using just the defaults. I have seen in my use of PCC at least a similar error message, but this is when I have completely messed up the plate scale by choosing the wrong Telescp[e Live telescope (easy to do, at least for me).  I have not attempted to download a local copy of APASS.  In fact, i'm not even sure how to do that.  When I click on the APASS catalog button in PCC, I only get 2 choices:  APASS 9 or 10.  I always think I'm accessing over the net.

Correct... When you are using the internet- you are using APASS9 (that is what is on the server). I showed that APASS9 has coverage for M101 and M51. You can verify this for your self by just using GenerateCatalogStars as I showed. This is why you are not experiencing problems. (As long as the servers are up... )

The platescale error deals with the plate solution using the GAIA catalog (of the PX whatever over the internet). This is a different error for a different reason.

  • Hi Adam:

you had mentioned early in video that it would use local catalogs and then internet if couldn't solve the image?

so not sure why the image you used didn't solve if it went first to the problematic APASS10, but then shouldn't it have gone to either local APASS9 or internet APASS?

  • No... I do remember that slip up. There isn't an automatic find another catalog at failure. So the default with local catalogs is APASS10 and it will use it everytime unless the automatic is turned off and APASS9 is forced.
This would seem like the appropriate behavior though. I actually think my idea is best. Juan could combine the catalogs... then none of this would matter.

If I am wrong, and there is switching let me know...
