Failed registrations when targeting faint NB objects

I took a shot at Sh2-110 over the last couple of nights and I've encountered an issue that's new to me. When WBPP made it to the Registration process (defaults), the Red Channel subs registered perfectly, I lost 35% of my subs in the Blue channel, and 20% in the Green Channel. I'm guessing the Red channel succeeded due to its strong signal. The Blue and Green channels struggled due to their weak signal and a lack of brighter stars in the field. That's my best guess. Any thoughts from the Jedi Master's out there? Possibly a change in the Registration settings?

All help is greatly appreciated!!

You did not mention it... so did you use cosmetic correction?
Are your stars larger than 5 pixels in size?

  • Hi Adam, yes for cosmetic correction, and yes, some stars are more than 5 pixels in size.
  • There is a new parameter in PixInsight that controls the detection of structures and their sizes as it relates to stars. You may need to adjust this parameter or others. In StarAlignment there is the Detection Scales parameter which you can increase (maybe 6 or 7) and Sensitivity which you can raise to 0.8 perhaps.

You don't need to redo everything in WBPP. Just open your calibrated images and run them through StarAligment as a test.
