Remove scattered light process

Hi Adam, I have previously had great success in applying the "Remove Scattered Light" process that you developed for removing reflection artefacts. I have, however, bumped into an issue with my current project which I have been unable to solve. I have a feeling it will turn out to be something simple but so far it is eluding me. I am running 1.8.9-1 and have had a friend who is running 1.8.9-2 try this for me and he replicates the same issue.

The symptom is that when I copy in the clean preview into the target image, the background is being altered in a way that it then doesn't match the rest of the target image. I have run out of ideas and would appreciate your assistance in having a look at this for me. I have uploaded the project file to a Dropbox folder and provided a link below to the folder. Also, if you feel that this would be better posted directly on to the PI forum, just let me know and I will do this.

Clear skies,
Rodney

  • The problem is typically getting Linear Fit to give you a good match of the background.
    Is this the issue?

Something you might not know... but Photometric Mosaic has a feature that may give you a better result.

  • Update
The big issue with what you are trying to do..is that you are putting higher quality luminance data into lower quality (noisy) Blue data. This might not work out in this particular case.

    ... still considering it though.

  • Thanks Adam. I had tried using data from the red channel as well which had the same result. I will have a look at Photometric Mosaic and see where that goes.
  • Give me a moment on that.
I will come back to you with what I think is the solution.

  • I found a reasonable solution.
I would like to use your image as an example.
May I have your permission to do so?
I plan on publishing the video tomorrow if possible.

  • Certainly Adam, only too pleased to help.
  • I have posted the video.

  • Brilliant Adam, love it. I need to download NSG as I don't currently have it installed so will get that sorted and give it a run. Thanks also for the tip on the Substitute script as well. That will definitely make life easier.

  • Just letting you know that I've successfully  installed NSG as well as the "Substitute" script and all is good. Thanks again.

    Rodney
  • Great. I hope you were able to follow my instructions and get the same result.

  • Affirmative Adam. I have applied the new process and succeeded in tidying up the data and removing the pesky reflection artefacts. Thanks again.
  • Excellent! -tBH
