Cannot Remove star residual after using StarXTerminator

edited February 2023 in PixInsight
I have an OIII image of IC434 that was processed using StarXTerminator (v.11).  It worked fine except for a few star residues, especially Alnitak.  I tried using the image itself as a mask, as well as a star mask, and then apply HDRM to reduce them but it was not satisfactory.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  image

  • I tried an approach that helped a lot but not perfect.  I created a star mask, used convolution to smooth it a bit, then used HDRM to remove most of the glow.  Then, I used CloneStamp to make it better.  I am not sure if that is really a good approach but it helped.  Maybe Morphological Transformation would be better.
  • Sounds like you are giving it a good try.
You might also want to consider the MLT/MMT methods I use as well. They can be good at blending to the background.
