NSG vs DBE

I may have an incorrect understanding of NSG and DBE but don't they both do generally the same thing??   I am using NSG mostly to take care of the small amount of gradient I have but I noticed Adam still using DBE in his processing videos.   Which one is preferred??

Thank you.

  • No. NSG (and Local Normalization) are normalization methods that *MATCH* image backgrounds (gradients) and signal strengths in order to make them compatible for rejection of outlying values. A consequence of this is that the reference frame you pick for normalization will be what is matched through all images. Thus, you can pick a frame that has the smallest/simplest gradients. There will be a gradient. DBE is therefore always used subsequently. I think you will agree that the simpler the gradient the easier it is for DBE to do its thing.

Please see this explanation of Normalization:

And of course review the videos on normalization/weighting here:
