Use of BlurXterminator on Narrow Band Images

Adam,

I have reviewed your NB NGC 3199 Tutorial several times and have enjoyed your approach. I have the full set of Russ Corman's Xterminator
tools including BlurXterminator.
I do a lot of Narrowband imaging due to the bortle scale 6-7 in my location outside Salt Lake City.
I was wondering how to apply BlurXterminator to improve my narrowband images along the lines of your NGC 3199 approach?
DO you have any guidance on how BlurXterminator could be used on narrowband.

Thanks Brent Jaffa

  • Since narrowband images tend to have fewer stars- you may want to use the manual PSF.
Just find the FWHM of PSFs in your image (use Dynamic PSF to discover). I can tell just by looking though- you don't need to be super precise. Another thing to understand is that where the signal is noisy BXT will not deconvolve much. This is how it should be. With traditional deconvolution you would mask it out.

All of the above applies to all images... so there really isn't anything special.
There are some vagaries dealing with the blending of images- but rational approaches just like what is normally done will work fine.
