Image Solver in WBPP workflow

Hi Adam,
In previous versions of WBPP weI did not do image solving within the WBPP workflow. Now it is there just before image registration.

Following the FastTrack 2022 Bonus WBPP I processed the Flaming Star data, and the image solving step failed. Everything else completed including integration. So should I go back, solve whatever reason it failed and then run all the steps again from registration onward? I know this is a training exercise. But I want to do things correctly.  I think my integrated image looks good. If I now successfully run image solver on the master integrated image, should SPCC work correctly?

You also mentioned in the Image Solver/DIscussion video that the image solver data embedded in the FITS header should be preserved, and that cropping an image would affect the data.  In the Bonus WBPP you auto cropped the image after image integration. Will this then cause SPCC to fail on the auto cropped image? Maybe that is why the astrometry data is not carried over by WBPP, ie not by accident.

BTW near the end of the Bonus WBPP you were comparing the drizzled integration result with non drizzled integration, but the images would not align as we normally do it. So you manually aligned for overlaying comparison. I think this was caused by selecting the auto cropped image for one, and the non cropped image for the other. Hey, this was just a little mystery, and nothing of consequence.

A great video series. Good for new PI users, and good for all of us to review. The added powerpoint type process flow visuals is a great reminder what we are doing.

Thanks,

  • Roger,

In general I leave the astrometry option of WBPP check as interactive. It can't fail and proceed by doing so.. you will have an opportunity to give it the information it needs.

If you miss WBPP assigning it..that is OK. As you correctly said, you can use Image Solver as a post WBPP process (perhaps right be SPCC). Also, if it was not obvious... there is no harm in running Image Solver as many times as you need... though if things are handled smoothly... this might be once... or automatically done in WBPP.

You also correct about cropped images. You will note that one of the last steps WBPP does... is run Image Solver again on the cropped images it creates!

You might be right about the alignment of the images... I do a lot of this... my brain gets fuzzy...
    lol
