SPCC QE curve for OSC camera's

Hi Adam,

I've been anticipating your perspective on SPCC and I must say, you did not disappoint.

One question I can't help ask is: In your video you demonstrate using teh Sony IMX QE curve AND the Sony Color Sensor filters for a OSC image.
While in the documentation under paragraph 6.0 it clearly states: If using a color camera, please set QE curve to Ideal QE curve since the filter curves of color sensors have the sensor QE implicitly included.

I'm wondering, was this just a simple misstake or do you have a different philosophy on the matter?

Thanks for your great work.

  • When I tried without specifying the sensor- the results of the plots looked terrible.
Looks fine if included... so, just because someone clearly says something... doesn't mean I listen all the time. I plan on making a third video of errata that the developers will be telling me. This might be included if I am wrong.

  • Thanks Adam. That's why I value your insights so much!
I have to say, experimenting both with and without specifying the sensor I did not come across any perceivable difference in both the image and the scatterplot. But I have just tested one image, the one I'm working on currently.

Also, have you seen the notes on always using a UV/IR blocking filter and always needing to Drizzle when using a OSC camera? The artifacts they show in the documentation look pretty intens. I generally do both so I don't expect any problems but I can imagine some other OSC shooters will be taken by surprise with this.

Good luck with creating the video's. As a fulltime (educatonal) filmmaker I'll tell you it's impressive how much quality content you've produced in the past view months.

  • Ok.So I found out.
The camera manufacturers do not publish different curves for the sensor and filters. They publish (if at all) ONE curve. We are to assume this ONE curve contains the full information. Thus we only select the filters and DO NOT choose a sensor (otherwise we have doubled sensors). Ideal QE is just the number 1. It isn't don't anything...

So for OSC put "1" (i.e. Ideal QE curve) for the sensor.

It is possible that the fits will not be perfect in some cases..this isn't a PI problem... it is a lack of information from the manufacturers. I have already re-recorded the section in FastTrack on this.

I will still be making an errata video once I know all of the errors are covered.
