I currently use an Eizo CS240 monitor for AP processing in PI - full 10 bit colour but only 24" 1920x1200.
I want to buy a 27" 1440p gaming monitor but it needs to be suitable for top end PI processing - Like everyone I spend a lot of time, effort and money capturing data and don't want to compromise on a monitor.
I have spent four full days going through monitor specs and cant work out what I need - the gaming part is easy but I don't know what I need to get the most out of PI. I am in over my head and sinking.
I think there are three things I can't get my head around.
1) 16m colours vs 1.07B colours. I assume 1.07B is desirable but this seems to require 10 bit colour (and 16bit LUT?) and many games monitors are 8bit + FRC which uses some sort of dithering to simulate 10bit. Is this 8bit +FRC adequate? What do I need?
2) HDR. I am looking at IPS panels which inherently have limited HDR capabilities although some high end monitors have HDR1000 and 500+ local dimming areas - they are expensive. But do I need HDR for PI processing or is this just for gaming and watching videos etc?
3) Black and Grey consistency - A lot of IPS panels have poor blacks/consistency, and some suffer edge bleeding. I am assuming that this will be bad for AP processing as we spend a lot of time looking at black screens - but is this generally an issue, am I overly worrying?
Any help greatly appreciated and if anyone knows of a suitable 27" monitor please let me know.
