Cosmetic Correction

In your videos when doing cosmetic correction during preprocessing you check the Auto detect but not check Use Defect list and instead do a bad pixel map using image container after calibration. What is the difference or is there a difference if I also check  Use Defect list after adding my bad columns. Is this just a personal preference or does it produce different results?

Thanks

  • I don't think there is a difference in principle... but here is one of those cases I do not know the answer. When using CosmeticCorrection and a Defect List there isn't an indication of the method that is used to substitute the pixels. On the other hand Defect Map offers some choices in method of substitution and structure type. In addition the Defect list only works in columns and rows whereas a defect map can be made of arbitrary shapes (say a cluster of pixels). With a Defect map image I can blink it with real data and see that is matches it well- so I have visual feedback.

So for these reasons I feel a Defect Map is more accessible to inspection and application. You would not need to do both a DefectList of CC and DefectMap together unless there is something in one that is not in the other (so in that case... just straight DefectMap makes sense).
