PhotometricColorCalibration failure

Using my data from the Pelican Nebula (star 57 cyg) what would be a reason for the Photometric Color Calibration "failure to platesolve?" The coordinates were from the Internet. (I'm using a 8" SCT with Hyperstar  f/1.9)

Much thanks for any suggestions

  • The Pelican Nebula is a large object so the coordinates you download may not actually be in the center of your field. This is true for many extended objects (where is the "center" of the North American Nebula for example). You can determine the coordinates of a star (or just the center of your field) in many different ways. ImageSolver will certainly do the trick. However, you can use a resource like the Aladin Sky Atlas as well.

  • Actually, the star in the very center of the nebula (i.e., 57 cyg), which is seen at the center of the attachment's view screen was the coordinates I used. Anything else I can try?
  • Some software (ASIsomethinganother) put in garbage information in your FITs files. If you have garbage information in there, again the ImageSolver will fix this by putting the correct plate solution in place OR you can check the box in PCC that says "Ignore metadata."
